Mainz achieved a massively important 0-2 away win at Werder Bremen last weekend, easier than expected. It was their first win after three straight draws, which is good, but they are still in serious relegation danger.
Mainz are three points above the relegation playoff spot before this weekend, but regardless of how this weekend ends, I believe they will have no problems securing their status in the weeks to come.
Mainz were also involved in the UEFA Conference League last Thursday, where they won 2-0 at home against Czech side Sigma Olomouc, advancing to the quarterfinals. Some rotation is expected, but considering they always use their core players, they might look a bit fatigued in this game.
A really positive thing about Mainz is that they went unbeaten in their last six home matches, drawing three and winning three.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt is seven points behind the last spot that leads in Europe, so they are making their final push for sixth place.
Their form has improved recently – unbeaten in three matches, winning twice, including a narrow 1-0 win over Heidenheim last week. That was also their third straight match with them keeping a clean sheet, which also ended with under 2.5 goals.
However, Eintracht Frankfurt must start winning away from home if they want to play in Europe. Amazingly, they are winless in their last six away matches, drawing four and losing twice.
The bad news from last week was the red card for their captain and defensive midfielder, Robin Koch, who is suspended for this game.
The Betting Verdict
This should be a good match, as both teams are in excellent form and chasing points for different reasons.
I am slightly in favour of Eintracht Frankfurt to win, because they had more rest for this game and overall the better squad, while Mainz had a European duel on Thursday night.
