Scotland’s 28-year wait for a World Cup appearance was finally ended after Steve Clarke’s side secured top spot in their qualifying group thanks to a dramatic 4-2 victory over Denmark.
The Tartan Army won four of their six qualifiers and are now focused on building momentum ahead of Group C clashes with Haiti, Morocco and Brazil this summer.
Preparations for the tournament have been mixed though as Scotland suffered back-to-back 1-0 friendly defeats to Japan and Ivory Coast respectively in March, but responded in encouraging fashion last weekend with a 4-1 victory over Curacao at Hampden Park.
After falling behind early, Clarke’s men capitalised on a red card for the visitors and produced a confident display to boost morale ahead of their trip to the United States.
Bolivia, meanwhile, narrowly missed out on World Cup qualification after falling at the final hurdle in the intercontinental playoffs. La Verde secured a playoff place by finishing in an encouraging 7th place in the CONMEBOL standings and even ended their qualifying campaign with a surprise 1-0 victory over Brazil.
However, after overcoming Suriname, they were beaten by Iraq in the decisive playoff match by a heart-breaking 2-1 scoreline.
Oscar Villegas remains in charge and is expected to use these upcoming fixtures as part of Bolivia’s preparations for their next World Cup qualifying campaign. While they have shown flashes of quality over the past year, consistency has been an issue, with five wins and seven defeats from their last 13 internationals.
Goals also look likely to be in short supply though as each of Bolivia’s last 13 internationals have resulted in Under 3.5 goals being scored.

This first-ever meeting offers Scotland another valuable opportunity to fine-tune preparations before the World Cup. Bolivia should provide a competitive test, but Clarke will be hoping his side can build on last weekend’s positive performance and head into the tournament with growing confidence.
