Atalanta Team News
Napoli, Inter, Juventus and Milan are getting all the headlines in media, and so does Roma, but in fact it is Atalanta that is doing exceptionally well and that will join the top four very soon. At the moment they're plagued by draws but this side has got so much firepower that it has another competent team on the bench that would also probably do well in Serie A.
Ivan Juric is the right fit for this Atalanta side and he's proven to not be just a defensive coach -- he played defensively in Torino because he had to with that roster.
This Atalanta is going places.
Lazio Team News
Lazio was dismantled by Torino and should have lost that home game but got the point with 3-3 so it doesn't look so bad on paper. But it looked bad on the pitch. It's as if Lazio played Arsenal or Barcelona, that's how they allowed Torino to look. Torino, a team that never looks good and that can't play offensively. They were bobbing and weaving their way through Lazio's midfield and defence all day long.
To add injury to insult, the best offensive players in the team got injured and will be out for at least a month. Castellanos and Dele-Bashiru will be greatly missed, especially as Lazio doesn't really have any replacements. So it will be up to 38-year-old Pedro, still the best footballer in the team, to save Lazio as he did so often in the past. He's announced in the starting lineup.
Probable Lineups
Atalanta (3-4-1-2): Carnesecchi - Ahanor, Hien, Djimsiti - Zappacosta, Ederson, De Roon, Zalewski - Pasalic - De Ketelaere, Lookman. Coach Juric.
Lazio (4-4-2): Provedel - Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Tavares - Cancellieri, Guendouzi, Cataldi, Basic - Pedro, Dia. Coach Baroni.
Marusic and Guendouzi return for Lazio but Castellanos and Dele-Bassiru are out for 50 and 30 days respectively. This is a huge blow for the Biancocelesti.
The Betting Market
Atalanta is favoured and the price of 1.75 actually seems reasonable. Perhaps even a bit too high. Over 2.5 Goals is priced at 1.83, and this looks like a good bet too, but we'll probably need both teams to score to bring the count up to three. BTTS-Yes is priced at 1.80 but that no longer looks like a very good bet as you can't really rely on Lazio to score on the road after they failed to do so against Como and Sassuolo.
The Betting Verdict
Atalanta is the better side and certainly has a chance to take the points here. It's enough for Ivan Juric to watch the Torino tape, do the same thing, and Lazio will go down. Lazio is poor beyond words, this side can only beat the likes of Verona and Genoa. Bear in mind Lazio lost to Como and to Sassuolo on the road without even scoring.
All Atalanta has to do is to not play too openly in order to not give Lazio a chance. If they don't make this game an open exchange of blows then they'll almost certainly win it.
It's interesting to note that Lazio seems to be a mismatch for Atalanta as Atalanta only won one of last five meetings in Bergamo. Last season, Lazio won here 0-1. This time around, we're looking at either a 2-0 if Atalanta will play cautiously or a 3-1 if the game opens up.
